About D-Control Basic
Pro Tools no longer supports D-Control on macOS Apple Silicon systems.
D-Control Basic provides provides the same features that V-Control Pro provides for D-Command systems. The goal is a practical one: if you're running Pro Tools on an Apple Silicon computer, this gets you basic Pro Tools control from the console instead of a bricked desk.
It is not full console integration, and the name says so on purpose. V-Control Pro uses the HUI protocol, which provides great basic control. But it can not match D-Control's incredible capabilities — so a large part of a D-Control frame stays inactive. What works and what doesn't is spelled out below.
What V-Control Pro adds
- Transport.
- Faders.
- Pan.
- Mute, Solo, Record, and Track Select.
- Automation mode.
- Sends A–E.
- Inserts A–E on strips 1–8.
What it doesn't do
- The main section focus strip is always assigned to the leftmost strip on the fader modules — it can't be reassigned.
- Only two rows of encoders are used.
- The Dynamics, EQ, and Soft Key sections provide no control at all.
- Sends stop at E, and inserts at E on strips 1–8. These are limits of the HUI protocol itself, not settings that can be changed.
Pro Tools only — unlike the other legacy consoles, D-Control support is Pro Tools-specific.
